The Road So Far

Imagine, if you will, two gamers in their prime. The men in question are John and Chris, two of the founding members of Random Encounters. Unhappy with the thought of working in call centers and other mind-numbing workplaces, they hatched an idea that would set them on a path away from what they felt was mediocrity. Upon reflection, John felt it necessary to bring in someone who had a rather robust personality and so, Bobby was brought on board as well.

From its inception, Random Encounters has always been about entertainment. People like being entertained, and as such, Random Encounters enjoys being able to provide that service. Before we could even start casting, we felt the need to give ourselves stage names. We felt just being John, Chris, and Bobby just wasn’t enough. John went with his usual idea of Valendro, and on cast adopts an air of narcissism, often alluding to the fact that he was the best in the group. Bobby chose Gooberjack based on a personal preference, and amplified his normally boisterous outgoing nature, becoming the Costello to John’s Abbott. Chris had his persona thrust upon him. Having a penchant for wearing flannel, being fairly hirsute, and notoriously difficult to photograph, he was dubbed the Canadian Lumbermoose by Bobby and the name stuck.

Random Encounters’ first cast occurred late 2013 with the idea that if we just played games we liked, people would show up. We weren’t prepared for just how much people would like it. Within the first year of casting, we had around 100 channel followers. It may not seem like much, but for three friends who just wanted to make people smile, it was an excellent start. In just a year and 2 months we nearly quadrupled this number breaking 480 followers on the 2015 Christmas show.

In early 2014 John set about filling out the paper work to shift Random Encounters from just another channel on Twitch.tv to a legitimate business, and after a few stops and starts, it was finalized and Random Encounters LLC was born. We finally made our dream a reality. Random Encounters was an entertainment company. We were ecstatic.

Early 2015 saw Random Encounters gain an opportunity they had been waiting for. On a whim, John called the local offices for Children’s Miracle Network and left a message about wanting to do something with Extra-Life. A few short meetings and planning later, and Random Encounters was representing Extra-Life at two high profile events in October and November of 2015 with three more events scheduled for 2016.

So here we are. Valendro, Lumbermoose, and Gooberjack, the three founding members of Random Encounters with a business now employing the assistance of our wives, two casters in other countries, and an up and coming photographer, as well as the ever growing population of our channel and its chat community, look to the future and eagerly hope to entertain for a very long while.

Confessions Of A Criminal Mastermind

So I have a problem. I like stealing things. It is a challenge to see if I can get in and get out with the goods without getting seen. One time I even stole my own pants from me while I wasn’t looking. That being said, I have to say that Payday 2 is a game I can really get into.

Opinions of a Vault Dweller

War…war never changes. Unless it has. Has it? The war has changed. November 10th marked the release of Fallout 4 in the US, and it was heralded as the perfect next step in the Fallout series. The numbers from that release prove its notoriety. Seeing higher first-day player numbers than even Skyrim, Fallout 4 is easily the breakout hit of 2015, and it’s easy to see why. Bethesda brought back a lot of the features that players loved from previous incarnations of the series. The Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.), the open world exploration, the Brotherhood of Steel, and everyone’s favorite wrist mounted tech, the Pip-Boy.

Springfield G.A.M.E.

Our journey began with a phone call. We had no idea what would come of it, and honestly, we didn’t expect anything to happen. John (Valendro) had put a call in to the Springfield offices for Children’s Miracle Network simply on a whim. We’d attempted the 24 hour Extra-Life game day the year before, and though we made some donations, we felt it wasn’t enough. We wanted to do more, and BE more. With that as his motivation, John left a message with the associate director Justin Bess. It wasn’t much longer until we got word back from Justin that we were just what CMN was looking for in Springfield. We were ecstatic about this as it was our chance, as Random Encounters, to do something amazing as gamers and as a company.
